This narrative explores how the Fregoso family, through their generational ties and contributions, became entangled in the project’s trajectory. Urban Development and Marginalized Communities
In the mid-20th century, Nebraska’s urban expansion plans necessitated significant land acquisitions. "Little Mexico," a vibrant community of Mexican-American families, became a target for redevelopment under the guise of public benefit. The goals were to:

Eminent Domain and Land Seizures
The use of eminent domain facilitated the government’s ability to claim properties. However, these claims were often marred by:

War-Time Contributions and Promises
Many families in "Little Mexico," including the Fregosos, had members who served in the armed forces during World War II. Their sacrifices were leveraged to justify redevelopment efforts, with promises of improved living conditions upon their return. However, these promises often went unfulfilled, exacerbating social and economic inequalities.

III. Connection to the Fregoso Family
Land Ownership and Displacement

Cedar Rapids Iowa
Deed Disputes: The family’s property was allegedly transferred under duress, with a great-grandfather signing with an "X" while absent in Mexico.
Loss of Home: The government deemed their property abandoned despite the family’s continued presence and active ownership.

Contributions to War Efforts
Military Services and Community Leadership

Generational Impact
The displacement fractured the family’s legacy and created legal ambiguities over property ownership.

l m fueled by a deep passion.
It all began with my brother Salvador Ray Fregoso on his death bed, told me, "Remember who you are. don't let anyone tell you who you are... look inside yourself, this is not you." Ray continued, " I told Joe, not to give up on you, I know my sister and is like a bulldog, she won't give up. She will lock down you she won't let go until she is done."
Then he tried to focus on my face look me straight in my eyes, He said," I know my sister very well...." I can't wrap my head around this, but I need to understand one thing. Maria why did you let them take the house?"
I responded to my brother, " I didn't Ray...that's why I went to prison. The only way they were going to take the house away from me was by removing me by physical force. and that's what they did." I was walking home, crossing the street and while I was on a public street, by way of citizen arrest performed by Linda S. Taggart after police received a call from Jose Carmen Rodriguez.
The responding officer assisted Linda in the arrest by giving her the Miranda Warning, then handcuffed me, searched me and took the keys I had in my pocket and handed them to Linda S. Taggart who then handed them to Jose Carmen Rodriguez. The house keys along with the car keys were never tagged and held with my property. The officer took me to headquarters for fingerprinting and then to Los Collinas.
This is soon to be completed social project because I do not wish for my children to inherit any more toxic exposure that they have already faced.

In Memory of my brother Salvador Ray Fregoso...
On that day he gave back something so precious, I though was lost. My true identity.
What will never be lost is what was taught to me by my mother, my birth mother. Lydia Benita Gonzalez as it is on my birth certificate signed by Dr. Percy at Mercy Hospital in Iowa, Cedar Rapids Iowa Linn County to be exact. It is also signed by the informant Lydia B. Fregoso the relationship is mother. And that is
When it is all done and over with, and the dust has settled down in my heart and soul I realize that there is only one thing that truly matters and that is. I am a child of God, and my true Father is Jesus Christ. My God, My Lord who guides and strengthens me. Shield with the Armor of God, covered in the blood of Jesus. I claim victory! No weapon formed against me shall prosper... In Jesus name, and so it will be done. Amen
